Philippine Embassy Seoul South Korea April 2012 Official Philippine Holidays
Mar 30th, 2012 by Anna

Since we have just a few days left from officially welcoming April of 2012 and all its foolishness, the Philippine Embassy in South Korea (located in Seoul), issued its mandatory announcement to all those concern in regards to the upcoming Philippine national holidays next month (April).

Philippine holiday

These upcoming events will be observed not only in the Philippines but on all consulate and diplomatic offices of the Philippine government all over the world, which includes of course the Philippine Embassy in Seoul.

Taking this into consideration, the Philippine Embassy in Seoul has recently announced via their official homepage that their diplomatic headquarters in South Korea will be closed to the public this coming April 2012 on the following days:

April 5 to April 6, 2012 – closed in observance of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday

April 9, 2012 – closed in recognition of Araw ng Kagitingan (Philippine Day of Valor)

Remember, during these April Philippine holidays, it is classified as an official non-working holiday, therefore all Philippine consular offices won’t be accepting any visa applications (if you’re a foreigner applying for a Philippine visa), passport renewals (if you’re a Filipino living in Korea) or any type of diplomatic services to the public.

So plan ahead and do some early appointments if you have any immediate things needed to address in the Philippine Embassy in Seoul next month.

Apple iPad 3 Expected to be Released Mid-April 2012 in South Korea
Mar 29th, 2012 by Anna

I know a lot of my Korean officemates will be thrilled (*cough* iPad 3 Sale in Korea *cough*) with this latest buzz from Apple Korea.

The 3rd iteration of the massively popular next generation tablet computing device from Apple – the iPad 3, is expected to be released and sold in Korea next month.

Apple iPad 3 Korea

According to South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency, Apple Corp. – the Cupertino based digital and software giant – recently applied for the iPad 3’s mandatory radio wave certification, which is required by the Korean government to check the compatibility of all electronic products that are planned to be sold in Korea.

Based on last year’s Korean market release of the iPhone 4s, Apple released the popular smartphone 3 weeks after the company applied for the radio wave certificate at the National Radio Research Agency. This trend, in regards to the release of their new products, has been an informal practice of Apple in Korea according to the radio agency. So, if the trend continues, Korean market experts are predicting that the iPad 3 will hit the streets of South Korea in mid-April this year.

With its fast dual core A5x chip, 4G LTE specs, and gorgeous Retina display, the iPad 3 is expected to challenge once again this year Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Tab series dominance in the highly lucrative Korean electronics consumer industry.

Dating Koreans in South Korea: Typical Dating Scenario between Foreign Men and Korean Women
Mar 28th, 2012 by Anna

Whenever some foreigners asked me how the typical dating scene in Korea is, my usual response to them is to try out some Korean dishes. This unorthodox suggestion of mine isn’t too far-fetched compared to what foreigners (especially westerners) need to expect (or experience) when it comes to dating Korean men and women. Let me try to summarize here a typical date scenario here in South Korea regardless of how you met your Korean date prospect – whether via free or paid online Korean dating service, hitting the bars and clubs of Seoul, or simply meeting him or her in a random chance encounter.

Try this if you’re also curious – pick any random Korean dish you haven’t tried before (works better if haven’t eaten a Korean food in your life), after that gobble it up and wait for that odd taste to invade your helpless taste buds – that bizarre sensation swimming inside your mouth and transmitting through your brain is kindda what you will be expecting when you began to hit the streets of Korea and experience firsthand what it’s like as a foreigner to date a Korean (especially the Korean girls).

Check out this cool and funny YouTube video, made probably by some Western guy who appears to be some kind of victim of this odd Korean dating pattern (and in this case, confusion) that dominates this unique East Asian social companionship only found here in South Korea.

Without generalizing things in this article in regards to going out with Korean Girls or how this typical date scene in South Korea may play out for you as a foreigner, the difference in culture is the primary factor that is needed to address by both parties to ensure the success of dating here in Korea.

So, before you indulge your precious singleness into the wilderness of the Korean dating life, remember to throw all the stuff you have learned and experience while dating girls back in your homeland. Start with a clean open-minded slate, and most importantly, embrace the Korean culture and life (especially the food – yes I am speaking to all of you Americans) – this alone is a surefire way to ensure your success in the world of ‘Korean dating’.
