Han Hyo Joo and Lee Seung Gi (Go Eun Sung and Sun Woo Hwan)

Korean balladeer and TV personality Lee Seung-Gi and top TV actress Han Hyo-Joo came out as two of Korea’s popular Ad endorsers in a recent survey conducted by Brand38, one of Korea’s top consulting firms.

The survey asked 1,625 people aged 16 and up, living in Seoul and its satellite cities, to name their favorite Korean Ad models in the second half of this year and the final tally placed Lee Seung-Gi 4th overall while Han Hyo-Joo was voted as the 17th most popular Korean Ad model.

Both Lee Seung-Gi and Han Hyo-Joo’s rankings in the survey significantly improved based on their standings in the last survey accumulated in the first half of the year. In the previous survey, also conducted by Brand38, Lee Seung-Gi was placed 23rd while Han Hyo-Joo was never included in the list.

The rising popularity of both celebrities as brand endorsers may be attributed to their recent team-up in the just concluded TV drama “Shining Inheritance/Brilliant Legacy” which topped the weekend drama charts finishing its run in July with a 47 % viewership rate.

The top three celebrities named in the popular Korean Ad models list are as follows:

1.    Kim Yu-Na
2.    Yoo Jae-Suk
3.    SNSD/Girl’s Generation

According to some economic analysts, a unified North and South Korea could overtake European economic superpowers such as France and Germany and even the 2nd largest economy in the world, Japan, by 2050. The analysts are speculating that with the potential that North Korea can provide in terms of vast mineral deposits (iron ore, coal, uranium etc.) together with the economic expertise of the South Korean business experts, a unified Korea might become the next world economic superpower, next only to the United States.

There are also factors that might affect the potential forecast that these analysts are projecting in terms of the economic future of the unified Korea such as to what paths and provisions were taken to merge the two Koreas, how will the unified Korea manage the transfer of power between the two regions legislatively and economically?, and can the two former warring nation create a harmonious financial hub in the Korean peninsula without creating another potential conflict to once again divide the unified nation. These and other aspects are the focal points that will bring the unified Korea to its full economic potential by the year 2050, the economic analysts said.

At present, North Korea is projecting year in and year out one of the world’s lowest gross domestic output but with the recent efforts from its South Korean counterpart, Seoul became the largest export market of Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital, replacing China in 2007. And with the prospective economic partnership between the two nations, a significant  element in terms of global economic market share lays ahead in the future of a unified Korea.
