A Cool Way To Learn The Korean Language

Hi, welcome to my blog. As a foreigner here in Korea, the most common barrier you would encounter as you go about in your daily life is the “Korean Language”.

A typical visit at your local convenience store can become a hassle if you can’t properly read and converse in Korean. Most products are labeled only in Korean so you could easily get mixed-up and buy the wrong merchandise (like vinegar bottles to cooking oil, or shampoos to conditioners).

Transporting to and fro from work can become time consuming without the proper knowledge of the Korean language. Banking, hospital and other business transactions are mostly done in Korean.

When I first came to this country I was really surprised how Korea, as an English-language-obsessed nation, English as a means of communication is seldom used here. But times have been changing as of late. The current Korean administration has promised to diversify the English language in government agencies to help tourists and foreign residents alike starting with government e-portals such as hikorea.go.kr .

They even have an on-going plan to recruit English translators to be assigned in various public hospitals to assists foreigners in need of medical care.

The Korean government is in the right path for its vision but it will still probably take years to see Korea as a bi-lingual nation.

So currently, what can a foreign resident or tourists do to go about in his/her everyday life in Korea, you may ask? Learn Korean, of course.

Learning a new language can be a pain even more so if you don’t have the proper tools to learn it. There are many books and online sites to learn Korean but some are so textbook-based, they remove the fun out of it.

While I was browsing the net last week, I stumbled upon this cool site that will not only help you properly learn the language; it will also give you an insight on the Korean culture as well. It is flash-based and is visually appealing so it will not bore you to death while learning Korean.

Note: This is just an introductory guide to study Korean. But it will put you in the right track to continue mastering the Korean language through various sources.
