Kim Yu-Na: Natural Beauty Or Plastic Surgery?
April 7th, 2009 by Anna

There are pictures posted by some Korean netizens recently that arguably depicts Kim Yu-Na as a plastic surgery beauty. It’s stirring quite a buzz in Korean net portals because of Kim Yu-Na’s  reputation in Korea as being blessed with a naturally beautiful face. Fans of the bemedalled figure skater have been defending her since the pictures came out. Others have mixed reactions regarding the controversy. Some argued that regardless of how Kim Yu-Na looked in the past, the honor and the prestige she has given this country portrays far more beauty and grace in the eyes of the Korean people.

Trust me, in a country like Korea, where having an aesthetic surgery is as common as having your hair done in a salon, being born naturally beautiful is one big asset  here that can definitely give you instant celebrity status. Look at where Kim Yu-Na’s beauty and talent brought her. But does she really possess a face not altered by modern science? I’d say you be the judge, but always remember the saying, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :-)

My mom said Yuna doesn’t have surgery. If she did surgery”double lid”, it will show a mark in the eye, no matter what you can’t hide it. Yuna looks ugly because of her teeth and her teeth got fixed… Later she got more beautiful especially at age 18.

Plastic Surgery? She’s a natural beauty and doesn’t have time for this rubbish. And the picture you show is when she was younger age. So keep your article in your pant and move on.

So many South Koreans do it so I wouldn’t be surprised if she did, but do you wanna know what I see? Make-up, growth, more confident facial expressions, and a fixed underbite. Seriously, I can do these comparisons. Why? Because (a) I draw people and therefore, have trained my eyes to perceive the proportions of the human face, (b) I’ve had to do these comparisons with many other Asian stars because so many have had surgery done, and (c) I do my comparisons from a scientific standpoint which means I do the research and I that take into account my biases, such as my favoring Yuna Kim, and counter them. I looked at these photos objectively and all the evidences I could find. My verdict is in. And seriously people, what do you think she won her medals with? Her face?

Oh and with the leg-lengthening thing. I highly doubt it. What athlete would waste their precious time on such a lengthy procedure? You work with what you’ve got and make up for what you lack. That’s what athletes do. Her skating abilities didn’t pop out of thin air.

Come on people! It is so obvious she had surgery with Dr. Nature… She had a GROWTH treatment for sure!!! If you look at the profile pictures, her nose is the same. And I don’t know about you guys but when you find that a girl is prettier when they are younger, or you’re still a kid yourself or you have a serious problem! Now that’S just my point of view!

I don’t believe that Yuna underwent surgery to get her looks. Everyone looks gangly at that age. I agree with Jason that 6 years is a lot of time for a person’s feature to change and take shape. When I was 13, I had an elongated chin. I looked like I had a stretched face! But as time went by, my face took shape and it was no longer elongated.
I believe that, as Yuna matured, she became more conscious of her face and took more care of it as any young woman would do. Wouldn’t you?

    Exactly She did it!
    Look at her nostrils!
Recently, they suddenly became smaller and changed the shapes !(they were bigger and wider before)
I do not think they would change smaller (not bigger!) easily from “growing”.

    WHERE SHE DID?(published):teeth-straightening.
    (where i suspect)columella nasl,nostrils,eyes(wider), cheeks(foreign substance),jaws(not only teeth!),and forehead too?

    What do you think ?

6 years is a lot of time to grow and develop. you have to remember that she’s only like, 18 or 19 (20 or 21 in Korean age) so, as the pictures suggest, the difference from 2003 to 2009 is huge which would put her at around 12 or 13… everyone changes from that age to their later teenage years so it is extremely plausible that this is her natural maturated look.

Looks like she had a big of an overbite in the old pics. She probably wore braces to correct it.
