Former President Roh Moo-Hyun’s Death: Accident Or Suicide?

Roh Moo-Hyun

Former President of South Korea ( from 2003 to 2008), Roh Moo-Hyun, died this morning (May 23) caused by multiple fractures on the head according to various Korean media sources. It isn’t clear yet if the former head of state accidentally fell from a cliff during a hiking trip or he purposely committed suicide amidst the recent controversies of corruption and bribery he and his family are currently facing. Excerpts from the Korea Times article:

Roh died of head injuries after falling into a ravine while climbing a mountain near his home in Bongha Village, Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province, around 6:50 a.m.

Police suspect that he killed himself by jumping off the mountaintop, rather than accidentally missing his step and falling to death.

After falling, Roh was immediately sent to a nearby small hospital, but he was unconscious and was in serious condition with multi-fracture and serious wounds in head, according to the hospital sources. He was again transferred to the bigger Pusan National University Hospital. But he failed to recover and died at 8:30 a.m., police confirmed.

It is said that Roh left a written will, but police have not confirmed it yet. Roh did not tell his hiking plan to his family and aides.

UPDATE

A suicide note was found left by former President Roh Moo-Hyun. So it really was a planned suicide not an accident as were claimed by some Korean media organizations. Here’s another excerpt from Korea Times regarding the said suicide note and the scene :

Moon Jae-in, Roh’s former presidential chief of staff, said Roh left a brief suicide note to his family, but did not elaborate. According to media reports, Roh said in the note, “I have had hard time and put so many people in trouble. I cannot do anything due to worsening heath condition. I cannot read and write. Don’t blame me. Life and death are the same. Please cremate my body and erect a small tombstone in my village,” indicating his suicide was premeditated.

  1. 18years old says:

The suicide note was found in wordprocessor document. so, There is no evidence that mr.roh wrote the suicide note. there is possibility of forgering of documents.
Because They(Lee’s followers) had to remove the evidence of murder , they quikcly cremated a corpse. The prosecution very quickly conclude that roh’s death was suicide with no evidence.
that is unfair! thus This article has to be corrected. like this, “yet this accident is suspicious death, so it is needed more investigation about this accident..
