If the ongoing negotiation goes as planned, according to rising Philippine hip-hop artist Young JV, a proposed Manila concert for top Korean girl group 2ne1 will be held in the “Big Dome” Araneta Coliseum in March next year.
Young JV said in an interview that D-Mac, his former schoolmate, contacted him on the phone for his possible participation as a headliner for the proposed 2ne1 concert. D-Mac, a local Philippine concert scene promoter is currently in talks with YG Entertainment, 2ne1’s management company. Also according to Young JV, other concert promoters are also working to bring in Rain, the Wonder Girls, and other top Korean pop stars to the Philippines for a possible concert in the future.
Young JV expressed his excitement for the promising opportunity to front act for 2ne1. The hip-hop artist said that he hopes that the planned 2ne1 concert in March pushes through ’cause the possible exposure from the show will be a big boost to my young career’, also citing that 2ne1 is currently one of the top stars in the Asian music scene today.
2ne1 also has a huge following in the Philippines thanks to its member, Sandara Park (DARA), a former ABS-CBN Star Magic talent who released an album in 2004 which became a Philippine hit due to its carrier single “In or Out”.

Yup, Sandara Park or Dara of 2NE1 isn’t the only one in the Park household who has a kpop group. Her younger brother, Park Sang Hyun, has recently been added to MBLAQ (Music Boys Live In Absolute Quality), Korean superstar Rain’s J. Tune Entertainment premier boy group. Sang Hyun was dubbed “Chundoong” (thunder) by J. Tune management and was a last minute addition to replace Kim Sang Bae, who left the group. Other members of MBLAQ are: Jung Byung Hee (Jang Goon), Yang Seung Ho (leader), Lee Chang Seon (Lee Joon), Bang Chul Yong (Mireu), Korean actress Go Eun Ah’s younger brother.
Last Friday (October 9), MBLAQ (pronounced M-Black) front acted and showcased their debut performance at 8,000 plus screaming fans at the Legend of Rainism Asian Tour held at the Seoul Olympic Park Stadium. The newest boy group on the block performed 3 songs. One of the songs’ performed was, “Oh Yeah”, is included in MBLAQ’s debut album to be released soon and is also the album’s title track.
All in all, MBLAQ’s debut at the Legend of Rainism’s stage was well received by the fans and the Korean media. Even Rain commented, when met by reporters after the event, that “MBLAQ was better compared to me when I started as a rookie”.
